Okay, for those of you who are really new, please understand that this doesn't slice glass like you would slice a piece of cheese with a knife. What it does is simply score the glass, which you then can snap apart. There are some great introductory glass cutting videos on YouTube: Google them before using this tool.This is actually only the first glass cutter I've ever worked with. I did some reading, and it seemed like it was going to be easier with the oil in the tool, and I think it was. I was able to cut out squares of various sizes quite easily, and even, after some practice, curvy shapes. The handle unscrews where you see the black line in the picture, about an inch from the tip. Since the cutter came with no instructions whatsoever, I sort of assumed that's where you put the Glass Cutter Oil . I filled up... Nicely made glass cutters made completely of metal, with textured non-slip grip. Has rubber washers to keep it from leaking where it unscrews. Unscrews at end and near cutting end. Large metal tip with small cutting wheel (appropriate for the job of cutting glass). Head of cutter swivels side to side for easy cutting freedom.Issues so far: oil leaks. Oil leaks out where handle and cutting head meet (where it swivels). Oil also leaks a little from around wheel. That was namely the issue I was trying to avoid in the first place... I know that the plastic pistol-grip oil-feed glass cutters also leak badly (I know a bunch of people that have or have used them), which is why I opted for the metal handle like this, thinking there would be no leaks. Wish I could have gotten ones that wouldn't leak oil... It has a bit of a spring loaded head. That was a little tricky to startt with but overall it worked very well. It has a 1/8 inch offset so remember to measure for the offset and cut on the proper side of the straight edge. |
